About Book

Biodiesel is one of the most widely utilised biofuels capable of replacing fossil fuel in compression ignition automobiles. This century, biofuels will play an important role because the world faces two big problems: volatile fuel prices and global climate changes. Biofuels will help solve both of these problems. They both have to do with our dependence on fossil fuels like petroleum, natural gas, and coal: Gasoline, diesel fuel, LPG, and natural gas are almost all used for transportation because they're made from oil. Biodiesel satisfies the Renewable Fuel Standard's biomass-based diesel and total advanced biofuel requirements. Biodiesel is not the same as renewable diesel, sometimes known as "green diesel." In most injection pump diesel engines, biodiesel can be utilised in its pure form or combined with petroleum diesel at any percentage. Depending on the manufacturer, new extreme high-pressure common rail engines have rigorous manufacturing restrictions of B5 or B20. Biodiesel has different solvent characteristics than petrodiesel, and it will destroy natural rubber gaskets and hoses in automobiles, but these will likely have previously been replaced with FKM, which is biodiesel-insensitive.

This book is a comprehensive look at the most recent developments in engineering technologies that can be used to make biomass and biofuels. This will help meet the need for new and cheap sources of food, chemicals, and energy for future generations. The chapters look at new ways to grow microalgae, like solid (biofilm) systems and heterotrophic production methods. The book talks about cutting-edge bioproduct optimization and molecular techniques, applications of genomics and metabolomics, and the engineering of microalgae strains. It deals with algal biomass, biodiesel production, toxicology of biodiesel combustion and alternative renewable fuels. It also explores biodiesel in automotive diesel engines, vegetable oils for biodiesel production and parameters of an engine using diesel-biodiesel mixtures. The most recent developments in microalgae harvesting and dewatering technologies, which combine biomass production with electricity generation, are shown, as well as detailed techno-economic modelling of these technologies. The various subfields of this discipline along with technological progress that have future implications are glanced at in great detail. This book is meant for students who are looking for an elaborate reference on biodiesel.
