About Book

Beginning with its origins in the study of mechanical vibrations and the radiation of these vibrations through mechanical waves, acoustics has had important applications in almost every area of life. Acoustics is a branch of physics that studies sound, or more precisely, mechanical waves in gases, liquids and solids. The science of acoustics spreads across many facets of human society-music, medicine, architecture, industrial production, warfare and more. The scope of acoustics has been extended to higher and lower frequencies: ultrasound and infrasound. Structural vibrations are now often included in acoustics. Also, the perception of sound is an area of acoustical research. Other applications of acoustic technology are in the study of geologic, atmospheric, and underwater phenomena. This book covers theoretical and experimental aspects of acoustics, providing state-of-the-art coverage of research findings for engineers and scientists involved in applications of acoustics in the widest sense. It deals with topics such as acoustic quality, acoustics optimization, vibro-acoustics, acoustics in optical fiber, acoustics modelling, aeroacoustics, biological structures and surface acoustic. It looks not only at recent developments in the understanding of acoustics but also at ways of exploiting that understanding. Coherent flow of topics, student-friendly language and extensive use of examples make this book an invaluable source of knowledge. It aims to serve as a resource guide for students and facilitate the study of the discipline.
